This workshop introduces participants to the timeless artistry of batik — a fabric dyeing technique that combines drawing, wax, and color to create stunning designs.

Facilitated By: Dil Afroz Naher
An artisan and designer specializing in block batik, natural dyeing, eco printing, and fashion design. She received professional training in Block Batik from Jatiyo Jubo Unnayon and further honed her skills through the SME Foundation in Fashion Design, Natural Dye, and Block Batik. Nazneen also trained in Canting Wax Batik in Malaysia and Indonesia and explored Eco Printing in Malaysia, where she developed a deep interest in sustainable, nature-inspired textile art. Her work beautifully merges traditional craftsmanship with modern design, reflecting a commitment to eco-friendly and culturally rooted creativity.

Who is it For?
Beginner Level: 16+

Workshop Outline: 
● Explore new Bangladeshi-inspired motifs such as kites, shapla, and other local elements that celebrate our cultural identity through design.
● Learn how to use wax for the process.
● Using the canting tool, a traditional pen-like instrument- learn how to apply hot liquid wax onto fabric to outline your own patterns before dyeing.

Each participant will:
1. Draw the desired pattern or design on the fabric with a pencil.
2. Use the canting tool to apply hot liquid wax onto the fabric
3. Create fine lines and intricate designs using pencil lines
4. Create and take home a personalized tote bag or T-shirt
